Decoration of Historical Homes & Buildings
Decoration of Historic Homes and Buildings began in 2016 when the Garden Club of York decorated the Butler’s Pantry of The Ladew Manor House in Monkton, MD. In 2017 through 2019, the committee returned to Ladew decorating different rooms each year. Because of Covid, 2020-2021, we were unable to decorate The Ladew Manor House. However in 2020 we chose to decorate the exterior of The Children’s Advocacy Center and in 2021 we decorated the exterior of the William Goodridge Freedom Center and Underground Railroad Museum, both in downtown York. In 2022 we returned to Ladew, decorating the drawing room and also that year we again decorated the Goodridge Freedom Center as well as 4 fire houses in downtown York. In 2023 the committee decorated the interior and exterior of The Goodridge Freedom Center and the interior and exterior of the buildings in the Colonial Complex in downtown York (Golden Plough Tavern, Bobb House, Gates House, Colonial Courthouse). 2024 was our most ambitious year so far. We decorated 4 areas in downtown York: The exterior of the Goodridge Freedom Center, the interior and exterior of the Colonial Complex Buildings, the interior and exterior of the new York County History Center and the 4 large storefront windows in the Creative York building, all in downtown York. The decorating that the committee has done so far has been during the fall/winter and has been holiday or winter themed.
