$1000 Scholarships Available
The Garden Club of York understands the importance of education in promoting gardening and related topics to the next generation—over the past 20+ years we have given more than $70,000 in scholarships to York County students. In 2023, we awarded $6000 in scholarships. These scholarships are made possible through fundraising activities and donations by individuals who support the goals and objectives of the Garden Club of York. Donations are always welcome.
Scholarships for academic year 2024-25 will be awarded to qualified students in the following areas:
Biology (excluding Pre-Med) Plant Pathology
Horticulture Environmental Sciences
Landscape Architecture Land Management
Conservation Wildlife Sciences
Forestry Urban/Rural Planning
Botany Agriculture
Agronomy Floriculture
Our scholarships are open to both high school seniors and college students who are York County residents. The scholarships are awarded based on academic standing, extracurricular activities, applicant’s personal essay and financial need. Applications must be postmarked by February 15, 2024. **Most students who are eligible for Garden Club of York scholarships are also eligible for $1000 scholarships through the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania (GCFP). Some of our scholarship winners have also won GCFP scholarships. Deadline for GCFP scholarship applications is February 1, 2024. To access the GCFP website, go to www.pagardenclubs.org. - 2022 graduate of Eastern York High School
- Currently a freshman in the Honors Program at Elizabethtown College
- Seeking a B.S. in Environmental Science
- Intended career path: environmental scientist with a concentration in ecology
- GCY scholarship winner in 2022
- Interests include kayaking, camping, hiking, painting, and community service
Jacqueline Kiszka
- 2021 graduate of West York High School
- Currently a sophomore in Schreyer Honors College at Penn State University
- Seeking a B.S. in Atmospheric Science with a minor in Marine Science
- Intended career path: researcher in atmospheric science
- GCY scholarship winner in 2021 and 2022
- Interests include music (pep band) and community involvement
Jenna Morris
- Senior at Kennard Dale High School
- Will be attending Iowa State University in the fall
- Seeking a degree in Agronomy
- Intended career path: agronomist
- Interests include 4-H, FFA, showing dairy cows, field hockey, basketball, community and church involvement
Juriel (Jay) Diaz
- 2022 Graduate of York Co. School of Technology
- Currently a freshman in the Honors Program at Elizabethtown College
- Seeking a B.S. in Environmental Science
- Intended career path: conservation researcher in the areas of wetlands and marine habitats
- Interests include gardening, native plants and cultural appreciation
