Flowers and Fellowship

The Garden Club started this activity around 2015.

Three to four times a year between eight and twelve garden club members travel to nursing and personal care homes in the York county area. We provide flowers, vases, decorative ribbons and assist and guide a group of 15 to 20 residents in making a fresh flower arrangement for their rooms. Over the past 10 years garden club visited over 30 facilities and has helped more then 450 people at the nursing homes make a flower arrangement.  This activity takes about an hour. A rewarding part of the activity is interacting with the residents. We find that many are already skilled flower arrangers, and some have been members of the garden club. When the schedule is set for the year, we post information, including time and place, on “sign up genius” – enabling interested garden club members to sign up. We add new and different nursing homes to visit each year, rotating based on recommendations from members, and also more recently direct requests from nursing homes. We are becoming well known in the community for offering this activity. All garden club members are welcome to participate.
